(7/427/10845), and al-Khaṭīb in "al-Tārīkh" (7/186) from various chains from Muḥammad ibn Muslim, from Ibrāhīm ibn Maysarah, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather: the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. The phrase "from his father" is omitted in "al-Zuhd." I say: This isnād is ḥasan at least for others; because Muḥammad ibn Muslim—who is al-Ṭāʾifī—has been critiqued regarding his memory, and Muslim narrated from him in corroboration upon verification, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but errs in his memory." I say: And we are assured of his errors by the corroboration of Ibn Lahīʿah that follows. Al-Khaṭīb narrated from ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Bashshār al-Janābī—who is the most comprehensive of compilers—that he never heard anything better in asceticism than this ḥadīth. Ibn Lahīʿah narrated it from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb with it; and his wording is: "The first of this ummah was saved..." the ḥadīth. It was extracted by Ibn Abī al-Dunyā in "Qaṣr al-Amal" (36/20) and "al-Yaqīn" (17/3), and through his route: al-Aṣbahānī in "al-Targhīb" (1/98/164 and 2/2515), as well as al-Daylamī in "Musnad al-Firdaws" (3/104) - through the route of Marwān ibn Muḥammad -, and al-Bayhaqī (10844) - through the route of al-Muʿāfá - from Ibn Lahīʿah with it. Ibn Lahīʿah is trustworthy, but he experienced poor memory; so his ḥadīth is ḥasan at least due to what preceded it. Al-Ḥāfiẓ indicated this by his silence about him in "al-Fatḥ" (11/237).
