then whoever refuses, let him drink from the deceit of Yemen, for indeed Allāh has guaranteed al-Shām and its people." Abū ʿAlqamah said: I heard ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Jubayr say: The Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) recognized the description of this ḥadīth in Juʾayl ibn Suhayl al-Sulamī, who was among the non-Arabs at that time. When they went to the mosque, they would look at him and at them standing around him, and they were amazed at the description of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) regarding him and them! It was also narrated by al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (2/35-36), al-Ṭabarānī in "Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn" (3/395/2540), and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (2/3-4) - in a shortened form - and Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (1/73-75) - and he, along with al-Ṭaḥāwī, added: He was short and dark-skinned, and they would pass by while those non-Arabs were standing, not commanding them to do anything except they would do it, and they were amazed at this ḥadīth! I said: Its chain of transmission is authentic, all its narrators are trustworthy; and Naṣr ibn ʿAlqamah, even though Abū Ḥātim said: "He did not meet Jubayr ibn Nufayr!" he mentioned at the end of the ḥadīth that the intermediary between him and Jubayr is his son ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Jubayr, thus the chain is connected and authentic, Allāh willing. As for al-Haythamī, he said (6/212): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī with two chains of transmission, one of which consists of the narrators of the 'Ṣaḥīḥ', except for Naṣr ibn ʿAlqamah, and he is trustworthy!" As for the statement of al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Taqrīb" about him: "Accepted"!
