He said: I asked him about what is considered good conduct, and he replied: ... and he mentioned the ḥadīth, adding: "Even if you remove something from the path of people that harms them... or if you meet your brother and greet him... and if a man insults you with something he knows about you and you know something similar about him, do not insult him back; then his sin will be upon him, and the reward will be yours. Whatever pleases your ear to hear, act upon it, and whatever displeases your ear to hear, avoid it." I said: This isnād is authentic, all its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the authentic collections, and it was also recorded by al-Nasāʾī with other narrations and chains that add to each other in the text. I had previously extracted some of them earlier in this series (1109 and 1352) from the path of Abū Tamīmah al-Hujaymī and others from Abū Juray al-Hujaymī—who is the subject of the story—adding to each other, but they do not include the phrases about the rope, the two wild animals, and the shoelace. His saying: (joining the rope); meaning: what is connected by the rope. And his saying: (the two wild animals); meaning the one who is distressed, from loneliness as opposed to companionship.
قال: وسألته عن المعروف؟ فقال: ... فذكر الحديث، وزاد: "ولو أن تنحي الشيء من طريق الناس يؤذيهم.. ولو أن تلقى أخاك فتسلم عليه.. وإن سبك رجل بشيء يعلمه فيك وأنت تعلم فيه نحوه؛ فلا تسبه؛ فيكون أجره لك، ووزره عليه، وما سر أذنك أن تسمعه فاعمل به، وما ساء أذنك أن تسمعه فاجتنبه". قلت: وهذا إسناد صحيح، رجاله كلهم ثقات رجال الصحيح، وقد أخرجه النسائي بروايات وطرق أخرى يزيد بعضهم على بعض في المتن، وقد كنت خرجت بعضها قديماً فيما تقدم من هذه السلسلة (١١٠٩ و ١٣٥٢) من طريق أبي تميمة الهجيمي وغيره عن أبي جُري الهجيمي- وهو صاحب القصة- يزيد بعضهم على بعض، لكن ليس فيها جملة الحبل والوحشان والشسع. قوله: (صِلَة الحبل)؛ أي: ما يوصل بالحبل. وقوله: (الوحشان)؛ أي المُغتَمَ، من الوحشة ضد الأُنس.
- (Three qualities, whoever possesses them will find the sweetness of faith and its taste: that Allāh and His Messenger are more beloved to him than anything else. And that he loves for the sake of Allāh and hates for the sake of Allāh. And that a great fire is kindled and he falls into it; this is more beloved to him than associating anything with Allāh.) It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī in "Sunan" (2/263-264) from the path of Jarīr from Manṣūr from Ṭalq ibn Ḥabīb from Anas ibn Mālik who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it
- (ثلاثٌ من كنَّ فيه؛ وجدَ حلاوةَ الإِيمانِ وطعمَه: أن يكونَ اللهُ ﷿ ورسولهُ أحبَّ إليه مّما سواهما. وأن يحبَّ في الله ويبغضَ في الله. وأن توقَدَ نارٌ عظيمةٌ فيقعَ فيها؛ أحبُّ إليه من أن يشركَ بالله شيئاً). أخرجه النسائي في "سننه" (٢/٢٦٣- ٢٦٤) من طريق جرير عن منصور عن طلق بن حبيب عن أنس بن مالك قال: قال رسول الله- ﷺ: ... فذكره.
