- "The one who stabs himself; indeed, he stabs himself in the Fire, and the one who throws himself into it throws himself into the Fire, and the one who strangles himself strangles himself in the Fire." It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/435): Yaḥyá narrated to us from Ibn ʿAjlān from Abū al-Zinād from al-Aʿraj from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): ... and he mentioned it. Al-Layth followed him from Ibn ʿAjlān with it, and his wording is: "Whoever strangles himself in this world and kills himself; strangles himself in the Fire ..." and the rest is similar. It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (5955 - al-Iḥsān). This is a good isnād, its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs; except that Ibn ʿAjlān was recorded by al-Bukhārī as a suspended narration, and by Muslim as a follow-up. However, Mālik and others followed him with it in its entirety at al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (1/73). Shuʿayb followed him from Abū al-Zinād with it, similar to the wording of Yaḥyá, without the sentence of throwing, and by placing the third sentence before the first. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (1365), and al-Mundhirī attributed it to him in "al-Targhīb" (3/205/2) but with the addition of the sentence of throwing, placing it at the end! Al-Nājī critiqued it in "al-ʿAjālah" (p. 188/1) as being inserted into it without doubt or concealment among the scholars. I say: It was hidden from him that it is established in "al-Musnad", and "Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān", and it is apparent to me that it is from the author's own additions, but he implied that it is from the narration of al-Bukhārī, so he should have pointed out that it is an addition from someone else; as he often specifies such matters, and should have attributed it to Aḥmad, or others
- (الذِي يطعُنُ نفسه؛ إنّما يطعنها في النّارِ، والذي يتقحَّم فيها يتقحَّمُ في النّارِ، والذي يخنقُ نفسه يخنقها في النّار). أخرجه أحمد (٢/٤٣٥): ثنا يحيى عن ابن عجلان عن أبي الزناد عن الأعرج عن أبي هريرة عن النبي- ﷺ: ... فذكره. وتابعه الليث عن ابن عجلان به، ولفظه: "من خنق نفسه في الدنيا فقتلها؛ خنق نفسه في النار ... " والباقي نحوه. أخرجه ابن حبان (٥٩٥٥- الإحسان). وهذا إسناد جيد، رجاله ثقات رجال الشيخين؛ إلا أن ابن عجلان أخرج له البخاري تعليقاً، ومسلم متابعة. لكن تابعه مالك وغيره عند الطحاوي في "مشكل الآثار" (١/٧٣) بتمامه. وقد تابعه شعيب عن أبي الزناد به مثل لفظ يحيى دون جملة التقحم، وبتقديم الجملة الثالثة على الأولى. أخرجه البخاري (١٣٦٥)، وإليه عزاه المنذري في "الترغيب" (٣/٢٠٥/٢) لكن بزيادة جملة التقحيم، وجعلها في آخره! فتعقبه الناجي في "العجالة" (ق١٨٨/١) بأنها مقحمة فيه بلا شك ولا خفاء عند أهل العلم. قلت: وخفي عليه ثبوتها في "المسند"، و"صحيح ابن حبان"، ومن الظاهر عندي أنها من ملحقات المصنف نفسه، لكنه أوهم أنها من رواية البخاري، فكان عليه أن ينبه على أنها زيادة لغيره؛ كما ينص على مثل ذلك كثيراً، وأن يعزوها لأحمد، أو غيره.
