- "Indeed, Allāh tests His servant with illness until it expiates every sin from him." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (1/347-348) through the route of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Salmān al-Ḥajarī from ʿAmr ibn Abī ʿAmr from al-Maqburī from Abū Hurayrah who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: ... and he mentioned it. He said: "Authentic according to the conditions of al-Shaykhayn!" and al-Dhahabī agreed with him! And al-Mundhirī affirmed it in "al-Targhīb" (4/153/63)! I say: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Salmān al-Ḥajarī was not recorded by al-Bukhārī at all; rather, he said, "There is something to be considered about him." Others have declared him reliable, while some have weakened him, and Abū Ḥātim said: "His ḥadīth is acceptable." In "al-Taqrīb": "There is no harm in him." Thus, the isnād is ḥasan and according to the conditions of Muslim. Yaʿqūb ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who is a trustworthy narrator from the men of al-Shaykhayn, disagreed and said: from ʿAmr ibn Abī ʿAmr from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥuwayrith from Muḥammad ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim from his father who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it
