I said: This book "al-Baʿth" has only had its second and final part printed, and therefore I was not able to review its isnād, but it is likely that it is through the route of al-Ṭayālisī. And Allāh knows best. The ḥadīth has many supporting narrations in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid"; among the best of them is the ḥadīth of Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "The oppressor will come on the Day of Judgment; and when he is on the bridge over Hellfire, between darkness and ruggedness, the oppressed will meet him, recognize him, and recognize what he oppressed him with. Those who were oppressed will not cease to exact retribution from those who oppressed them until they strip them of their good deeds. If they have no good deeds, then sins will be returned to them equivalent to what they oppressed, until they are brought to the lowest depths of the Fire." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (2/1/228-229) - though he did not provide its wording - and by Ḥusayn al-Marwazī in "Zawāʾid al-Zuhd" (499/1420), and by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" (6/455/5973) - and the context is his - through the route of Ḥusayn al-Muʿallim from Ayyūb from al-Jahm ibn Faḍālah from him. Al-Ṭabarānī said: "No one narrated it from Ayyūb except Ḥusayn al-Muʿallim, and it was uniquely reported by Ibn Abī ʿAdī." I said: He was followed by al-Bukhārī's Rūḥ - who is Ibn ʿUbādah - and his narrators are reliable and well-known from the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for al-Jahm ibn Faḍālah, whom no one authenticated except Ibn Ḥibbān (4/113), and he mentioned that Suwayd Abū Qazʿah narrated from him. I said: And Suwayd is trustworthy, and likewise Ayyūb here, as two trustworthy narrators narrated from him, so his ḥadīth is ḥasan or close to it, and it is suitable for citation. Among those supporting narrations is the ḥadīth of Anas ibn Mālik, and its documentation has been previously mentioned under number (3265).
