we were with the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when the verse (When the help of Allāh comes) was revealed, and he said: "They are the people of Yemen." This is how al-Bukhārī narrated it in "al-Tārīkh" (3/2/195); he said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz said: al-Khaḍir narrated to us: ʿUmar narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Abī Bashīr... I said: This isnād is also good, and a strong corroboration from this ʿAbd al-Malik; for he is trustworthy, as well as those below him. And ʿUmar: he is Ibn Mujāshiʿ al-Madāʾinī, and in his biography, al-Bukhārī mentioned him without any criticism or endorsement, and Ibn Abī Ḥātim did the same, but Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (7/184) from the narration of this al-Khaḍir from him—he is Ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥarrānī—but he mentioned two other narrators for him in "al-Lisān," and Ibn Maʿīn said; "There is no harm in him," so refer to it if you wish, or "Taysīr al-Intifāʿ." I said: There is a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Maynāʾ from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd with it: Aḥmad extracted it (1/449); but this Maynāʾ is abandoned. And it has been narrated with another isnād worse than it from Ibn Masʿūd at length, and I have extracted it in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" (6445). I said: It is from the grace of Allāh upon me that He guided me to extract these virtues for the people of Yemen and revive them, especially the ḥadīth of the chapter, for it was hidden from many of the ḥadīth scholars and compilers, let alone others, for even if there were those among them who mentioned some of its routes and wordings; none of them encompassed its routes and supporting narrations that strengthen it, and whoever found something of it did so without verification and correction, so let us mention those whose statements we have come across:
كنا عند النبي ﷺ فنزلت (إذا جاء)، فقال: "هم أهل اليمن". هكذا رواه البخاري في "التاريخ" (٣/٢/١٩٥)؛ فقال: وقال عبد العزيز: حدثنا الخضر: حدثنا عمر عن عبد الملك بن أبي بشير ... قلت: وهذا إسناد حسن أيضاً، ومتابعة قوية من عبد الملك هذا؛ فإنه ثقة، وكذلك من دونه. وعمر: هو ابن مجاشع المدائني، وفي ترجمته ساقه البخاري ولم يذكر فيه جرحاً ولا تعديلاً، وكذلك فعل ابن أبي حاتم، لكن ذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات" (٧/١٨٤) من رواية الخضر هذا عنه- وهو ابن محمد الحراني-؛ لكن ذكر له في "اللسان" راويين آخرين، وأن ابن معين قال؛ "لا بأس به"، فراجعه إن شئت، أو "تيسير الانتفاع". قلت: له شاهد من حديث ميناء عن عبد الله بن مسعود به: أخرجه أحمد (١/٤٤٩)؛ لكن ميناء هذا متروك. وقد روي بإسناد آخر أسوأ منه عن ابن مسعود مطولاً، وقد خرجته في "الضعيفة" (٦٤٤٥). قلت: إن من فضل الله علي أن وفقني لتخريج هذه الفضائل لأهل اليمن وإحيائها، وبخاصة حديث الترجمة، فقد خفي على كثير من الحفاظ والمخرجين فضلاً عن غيرهم، فإنه وإن كان هناك منهم من ذكر شيئاً من طرقه وألفاظه؛ فما منهم من أحد من أحاط بطرقه وشواهده التي تقويه، ومن وجد شيئاً منها فبدون تحقيق وتصحيح، فلنذكر من وقفنا على كلامهم:
