"It was narrated by Aḥmad, and in it is Abū Maʿshar, who is weak, but has been deemed reliable." He was followed up on; however, in the chain to him is someone who used to steal ḥadīth, namely Ibrāhīm ibn Isḥāq al-Ghasīlī: ʿAbd al-Aʿlá ibn Ḥammād al-Narsī narrated to us: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr with it, and added: "... and Allāh's protection is absolved from him." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (2/12), and from him by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan" (6/30). Al-Ḥākim indicated its weakness, as he mentioned it among a group of ḥadīths concerning the prohibition of hoarding, and said: "They are not according to the criteria of the book." Al-Dhahabī explained its defect, saying: "I say: al-Ghasīlī used to steal ḥadīth." He also said this in "al-Mīzān," and confirmed it in "al-Lisān," mentioning that Ibn Ḥibbān said (1/119-120): "He used to steal ḥadīth and distort reports... the precaution with him is to use him as evidence in what he agreed with the reliable narrators of the reports, and to leave what he narrated uniquely." Then al-Ḥāfiẓ mentioned from al-Ḥākim that he was: "among the unknowns." Al-Mundhirī in "al-Targhīb" indicated its weakness, saying—after attributing it to al-Ḥākim (3/28)—: "... and there is discussion about it."
"رواه أحمد، وفيه أبو معشر، وهو ضعيف، وقد وثق". وقد توبع؛ لكن في الطريق إليه من كان يسرق الحديث، وهو إبراهيم بن إسحاق الغسيلي: ثنا عبد الأعلى بن حماد النرسي: ثنا حماد بن سلمة عن محمد بن عمرو به، وزاد:".. وقد برئ منه ذمة الله ". أخرجه الحاكم (٢/١٢) ، وعنه البيهقي في "السنن " (٦/ ٣٠). وأشار الحاكم إلى تضعيفه، فإنه ذكره في جملة أحاديث في النهي عن الاحتكار، وقال:"إنها ليس على شرط الكتاب ". وبين علته الذهبي فقال:"قلت: الغسيلي كان يسرق الحديث ". وكذلك قال في "الميزان "، وأقره في "اللسان "، وذكر عن ابن حبان أنه قال (١/١١٩ـ١٢٠) :"كان يسرق الحديث، ويقلب الأخبار.. والاحتياط في أمره أن يحتج به فيما وافق فيه الثقات من الأخبار، ويترك ما تفرد به ". ثم ذكر الحافظ عن الحاكم أنه كان: "من المجهولين ". وأشار المنذري في "الترغيب " إلى تضعيفه، فقال- بعدما عزاه للحاكم (٣/٢٨) -:".. وفيه مقال ".
