Ibn ʿAdī said in "al-Kāmil" (14/2): "ʿAbdān al-Ahwāzī said to us: I asked al-Faḍl ibn Sahl al-Aʿraj and Ibn Ishkāb about Muḥammad ibn Ziyād al-Barjamī, and they said: He is among the trustworthy of our companions." Ibn Ḥibbān included him in "al-Thiqāt" and said (2/267): "He narrates from Thābit al-Bunānī, and the people of Baṣrah narrated from him." I said: Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī did not recognize him, so his son said (3/2/258): "I asked him about him, and he said: He is unknown." Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated it with a different wording, which is: "Whoever supports two daughters, or three daughters, or two sisters, or three sisters, until they die (in one narration: they marry, and in another: they reach maturity) or he dies leaving them, I and he will be like these two," and he gestured with his index and middle fingers.

Aḥmad recorded it (3/147-148): Yūnus narrated to us, Ḥammād, meaning Ibn Zayd, narrated to us from Thābit from Anas or someone else, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, and he mentioned it. Ibn Ḥibbān also recorded it (2045) through two other chains from Ḥammād ibn Zayd with it, and he did not say: "or someone else," and he has the second narration. I said: This is a sound chain according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs. Al-Haythamī mentioned it in "al-Majmaʿ" (8/157) similarly from the narration of al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" with two chains, and he said: "The men of one of them are the men of the authentic collections."
