and it was transmitted from him by al-Dhahabī in "al-Mīzān" and al-ʿAsqalānī in "al-Lisān", and they approved it, mentioning that he is the narrator of "Kitāb al-Jihād" from Ibn al-Mubārak. I do not know how this escaped the ḥāfiẓ, and he relied on the aforementioned book in what preceded?
- (He would stand and pray at night [on his mat], (Maimūnah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā) said, while I was sleeping beside him, [spreading my mat near the mosque of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)], when he prostrated, the edge of his garment would touch me while I was menstruating). It was narrated by Aḥmad (6/330-331) through various chains from ʿAbd al-Wāḥid and others, from Sulaymān al-Shaybānī who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaddād told us, saying: I heard Maimūnah, the wife of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), say: ... and he mentioned it. The context is from ʿAbd al-Wāḥid—who is Ibn Ziyād al-ʿAbdī—and he is trustworthy from the men of the two Shaykhs, and the additions are from others, all of which are authentic. The ḥadīth is in "al-Ṣaḥīḥayn" and the authors of "al-Sunan" and others with similar wording, and it is extracted in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd" (395/663), but it appears in "Muslim" in a very abbreviated form with the wording: He would pray while I was beside him, and perhaps his garment would touch me when he prostrated, and he would pray on the mat. Therefore, it was confusing to some of our brothers, and he questioned in a letter he sent to me from Riyadh dated (2/6/1416 AH) in which he asked: "Does it imply that a woman stands with the male imam in the same row in congregational prayer during the supererogatory prayer, as perhaps the title of the ḥadīth and what precedes it in 'Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim' suggests?! Or does it imply that she was sitting and not praying ... ?!"
