in his commentary on the ḥadīth of ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, which was reported by al-Bukhārī (4280) through the route of Hishām ibn ʿUrwah from his father, as a mursal narration. It contains many sentences similar to those in the ḥadīth of Ibn Isḥāq; thus, it serves as a strong corroboration. It was also reported by al-Ṭabarī (3/711-811), al-Bayhaqī (5/36-38, 38-39) — in part — and al-Ṭabarānī (7263) through another route from Hishām, in an extended form, and it includes Ibn Lahīʿah. Ibn Isḥāq has another isnād, where he said: Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās narrated to us from ʿIkrimah from Ibn ʿAbbās, similar to it. It was reported by al-Ṭabarī (3/115-117) and al-Bayhaqī (5/32-35). This Ḥusayn is weak. Ayyūb contradicted him, narrating it from ʿIkrimah as a mursal narration; he did not mention Ibn ʿAbbās. Al-Bayhaqī also reported it, but he did not provide its text, and he said afterward: "ʿAbd Allāh ibn Idrīs narrated it from Ibn Isḥāq from al-Zuhrī from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUtbah from Ibn ʿAbbās with its meaning." Then he reported it (5/39-46) from Mūsá ibn ʿUqbah, adding in the narration: from Ibn Shihāb as a mursal narration, similar to it in an extended form. In summary, the ḥadīth is authentic through these routes and corroborations, and it is the most authentic and complete account I have come across as a musnad in the story of the Conquest of Mecca, may Allāh protect it. And Allāh knows best.
