I said: This is an interrupted chain of transmission that is authentic, with narrators who are reliable, the same as those of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], except for Bishr—who is Ibn Muʿādh al-ʿAqdī al-Baṣrī. Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Mizzī mentioned him among those who narrated from (Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ), and he is truthful as Abū Ḥātim said, followed by al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿAsqalānī. Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (8/144), and a group of ḥadīth scholars narrated from him, like the authors of "al-Sunan" except Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī, and others. Ibn Ḥibbān included many ḥadīths from him in "Ṣaḥīḥ," and you can see their numbers if you wish in "Fahāris al-Rijāl" (p. 107, printed by the institution). Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ is a reliable and firm narrator, especially in his narration from Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah. Aḥmad even said: "Everything narrated by Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ from Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah, you need not worry about hearing it from anyone else, as his hearing from Saʿīd is old." The Imam indicates that this Saʿīd had become confused, yet he was among the most reliable in his narration from Qatādah. Abū Ḥātim even said: "He was the most knowledgeable of people about the ḥadīth of Qatādah." I said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rajāʾ differed in his chain of transmission; he said: from Qatādah from Anas with it... thus he attributed it to Anas. Al-Bazzār narrated it (3/254/2692): Muḥammad ibn al-Muthanná narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rajāʾ narrated to us with it. And he said: "We do not know it to be narrated from Qatādah from Anas except through this route." I said: It seems to me that it is anomalous; because ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rajāʾ—who is al-Ghadānī, as mentioned
