I said: This is a good isnād; all its narrators are reliable and well-known, except for al-Mughīrah, who is ibn Ḥabīb Abū Ṣāliḥ al-Azdī. Al-Dhahabī mentioned him in "al-Mīzān" because al-Azdī said about him: "His ḥadīth are objectionable." Ibn Ḥibbān included him in "al-Thiqāt" and said: "He narrates from Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh and Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, and from him narrate Hishām al-Dastawāʾī and the people of al-Baṣrah, and he has rare narrations." I said: Ibn Abī Ḥātim included him (4/1/220/991) and added to those who narrated from him Ḥammād ibn Zayd, Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān, Ṣāliḥ al-Marī, and Bishr ibn al-Mufaḍḍal. He did not mention any criticism or endorsement about him. I said: Therefore, his ḥadīth can be accepted with confidence, due to the narration of this group of reliable narrators from him, without any known reason to reject his ḥadīth. As for al-Azdī's statement: "His ḥadīth are objectionable," it is not to be considered because he is known for being overly critical in disparagement. Perhaps that is why al-Dhahabī did not include him in his other book "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" nor in its supplement. And Allāh knows best. He was followed by Ibrāhīm ibn Adham, who narrated to us from Mālik ibn Dīnār. Abū Nuʿaym recorded it in "al-Ḥilyah" (8/43-44) and said: "It is well-known from the ḥadīth of Mālik from Anas, and rare from the ḥadīth of Ibrāhīm from him." I said: He is a trustworthy, ascetic, and well-known figure, endorsed by a group of scholars like Ibn Maʿīn and others. Thus, it is a strong corroboration for al-Mughīrah, making the ḥadīth authentic. All praise is due to Allāh for His guidance.
