This, and al-Suddī was followed by Abū Isḥāq, who is al-Sabīʿī; it was narrated by Fiṭr ibn Khalīfah from him, from Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Jadalī, who said: Umm Salamah said: "O Abū ʿAbd Allāh! Is the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) being insulted among you?" I said: "And who insults the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)?" She said: ... and she mentioned it. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (23/322/737). I said: Its narrators are trustworthy; regarding the well-known discussion about Abū Isḥāq, there is a disagreement about its isnād and matn. Some narrated part of it from him with the wording: "Whoever insults ʿAlī has insulted me, and whoever insults me, Allāh insults him." This wording is objectionable, and therefore I included it in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" (2310), and I critiqued it there, and I followed up on those who authenticated it. It should be reviewed in the fifth volume of it, which is under publication, and it will be in the hands of readers soon, Allāh willing, and it has been printed by the grace and favor of Allāh. The ḥadīths about the Prophet's (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) love for ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) are very numerous, the most authentic of which is the ḥadīth of giving him the banner on the day of Khaybar, and his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saying: "I will give this banner to a man who loves Allāh and His Messenger, and whom Allāh and His Messenger love..." It was narrated by a group of Companions in "al-Ṣaḥīḥayn" and elsewhere, and I have referenced some of them earlier (3244), and in "Takhrīj al-Ṭaḥāwiyyah" (484/713).
