- (He would not pray in our blankets). It was recorded by the authors of "al-Sunan" and others, and its isnād according to Abū Dāwūd (645) is as follows: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muʿādh narrated to us: My father narrated to us: al-Ashʿath narrated from Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq from ʿĀʾishah. Al-Ḥākim also recorded it from this chain (1/252), and he said, "Authentic according to the criteria of al-Shaykhayn." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him! I say: It is only authentic; because al-Ashʿath—who is Ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Ḥarrānī—was not recorded by Muslim, and al-Bukhārī only recorded him in a suspended form. Others narrated it through different chains from him, and in some of them, it is explicitly stated that he is al-Ḥarrānī, and it is recorded in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd" (393). Among those who authenticated the ḥadīth is Ibn Ḥibbān, who recorded it in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (4/38/233-al-Iḥsān) with a sound isnād from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar al-Qawārīrī: Muʿādh ibn Muʿādh narrated to us with it. This is a strong corroboration from ʿUbayd Allāh al-Qawārīrī for ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muʿādh al-ʿAnbarī, along with other corroborations that will be mentioned, Allāh willing. Al-Ḥabāb ibn Muḥammad, the father of al-Faḍl Abū Khalīfah, disagreed with them in both isnād and text. Ibn Ḥibbān said (4/36/2324-al-Iḥsān), and (106/35-al-Mawārid): Abū Khalīfah informed us: My father narrated to us: Muʿādh ibn Muʿādh narrated to us: al-Ashʿath ibn Sawwār narrated from Ibn Sīrīn ... with the wording: "The Prophet ﷺ would pray in our blankets."
