I said: it is disconnected; Abū Salamah is the son of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf and did not hear from his father. Its narrators are reliable, except for ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shabīb, who is a weak reporter; however, he is followed by Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad al-Zuhrī: ʿUmar ibn Ṭalḥah al-Laythī narrated to us from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr al-Laythī with it. Ibn ʿAsākir recorded it in "al-Tārīkh" (10/132). And this al-Zuhrī is truthful but makes many errors and narrates from weak narrators, as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." His teacher, ʿUmar ibn Ṭalḥah al-Laythī, was said by al-Dhahabī in "al-Mughnī": "He is unknown," and Abū Ḥātim said: "He is credible." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful." I said: the other route about ʿAbd al-Raḥmān that al-Bazzār referred to, it appears that he means it was narrated by ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar from Umm Bakr that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf sold a piece of land to ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān for forty thousand dinars, and he distributed it among the poor of Banū Zuhrah, those in need, and the Mothers of the Believers. Al-Miswar said: I entered upon ʿĀʾishah with her share of that, and she said: Who sent this? I said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf. She said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Only the patient will be kind to you after me." May Allāh give Ibn ʿAwf to drink from the Salsabīl of Paradise! It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (3/310-311), Aḥmad (6/135) in "al-Faḍāʾil" (2/729/1249), Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (3/132-133), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" (10/52-53/9111-T), and Ibn ʿAsākir in "al-Tārīkh" (10/131-132 and 132)
