I said: This is a good isnād; despite the weakness in ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ, the scribe of al-Layth, the ḥāfiẓ has inferred from the statements of the imams about him that what comes from him through the narration of the skilled, like Yaḥyá ibn Maʿīn, al-Bukhārī, Abū Zurʿah, and Abū Ḥātim, is from his authentic ḥadīth; for this is from al-Bukhārī's ḥadīth from him. And he was followed; Aḥmad said (4/106): Abū al-Mughīrah narrated to us, saying: al-Awzāʿī narrated to us, saying: Usayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me, saying: Ṣāliḥ ibn Muḥammad narrated to me, saying: Abū Jumʿah narrated to me, saying: We had lunch with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and with us was Abū ʿUbaydah ibn al-Jarrāḥ. He said: O Messenger of Allāh! Is there anyone better than us? We accepted Islam with you and fought alongside you? He said: ... and he mentioned it briefly with the wording: "A people who will come after you, who believe in me and have not seen me." From this perspective, it was also narrated by al-Ḥākim (4/85), and al-Ṭabarānī. It was also narrated by Abū Yaʿlá in his "Musnad" (3/128), and by Ibn ʿAsākir through other routes from al-Awzāʿī. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic isnād" and al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said. The ḥāfiẓ said (7/6): "Its isnād is good." Usayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān has another teacher, so Usayd said: from Khālid ibn Durayk from Abū Muḥayriz, who said: I said to Abū Jumʿah—a man from the Companions—: Tell us a ḥadīth you heard from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)? He said: Yes, I will tell you a good ḥadīth... and he mentioned it. It was narrated by Aḥmad, as well as by al-Dārimī in his "Sunan" (2/308), and they said: Abū al-Mughīrah narrated to us:
