the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ gharīb from this perspective." I said: Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim]. The middle part of it is not found in al-Dārimī and Ibn Ḥibbān. Abū Dāwūd (4899) narrated from Wakīʿ, who reported from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, the last part of it and added: Do not speak ill of him. It has a corroborating report from Ibn ʿAbbās without the last part. It was narrated by Ibn Mājah (1977), Ibn Ḥibbān (1315), and al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (63/9/2) through the route of ʿUmārah ibn Thawbān from ʿAṭāʾ from him. Al-Ḥākim also narrated it (4/173), limiting it to the first part with the wording: "The best of you are the best to their women." He said: "It has a ṣaḥīḥ isnād." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him! This is strange from him, as this ʿUmārah is mentioned by al-Dhahabī in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ", and he said: "A minor tābiʿī, unknown." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Concealed." It has a corroborating report from Ibn ʿAmr with the wording: "The best of you are the best to their women."
