and the name of Abū al-Ghayth is Sālim; and both are trustworthy. There is a corroborating report from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Allāh says: O Ādam! He will say: Here I am at Your service, and all good is in Your hands! He says: Bring forth the people of the Fire. He says: What is the people of the Fire? He says: Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine. That is when the child will grow old, (and every pregnant woman will miscarry, and you will see people as if they are drunk, yet they are not drunk, but the punishment of Allāh is severe)". This was difficult for them, so they said: O Messenger of Allāh! Who among us is that man? He said: "Rejoice; for among Gog and Magog there are a thousand, and from you, one man." Then he said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul; I hope that you will be a third of the people of Paradise." He said: So we praised Allāh and magnified Him, then he said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul! I hope that you will be half of the people of Paradise. Your likeness among the nations is like a white hair on the skin of a black bull, or like a mark on the foreleg of a donkey." It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (6530) and Muslim (1/139-140) through the route of Jarīr from al-Aʿmash from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Saʿīd who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. It is in "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ" (7998), and its takhrīj has been mentioned earlier in this "series" (number 3250). *

(Shall I not tell you of something which, if you do it, you will catch up with those who have preceded you, and no one after you will overtake you, and you will be the best among those who are between your shoulders - except for one who does the same?
