and Ibn Jarīr, as transmitted by al-Mizzī in "Tahdhīb al-Kamāl" (14/131), and al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar said in "Taqrīb": "Reliable, but perhaps he errs." This is a clear mistake on his part, and Allāh, the Exalted, knows best. *

(Indeed, I know a word that if he were to say it, what he finds would leave him; if he were to say: I seek refuge with Allāh from the accursed devil). It comes from the ḥadīth of Sulaymān ibn Ṣurad, Muʿādh, Ibn Masʿūd, and Ubayy ibn Kaʿb. As for the ḥadīth of Sulaymān ibn Ṣurad: it was narrated by al-Bukhārī in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (3282, 6048, 6115), and in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (434), Muslim in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (8/31), Ibn Abī Shaybah (8/533, 10/349-350), Aḥmad (6/394), Abū Dāwūd (4781), al-Nasāʾī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (392, 393), Ibn Ḥibbān (5692), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (6488, 6489), al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (3331), and Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in "al-Āḥād wa-al-Mathānī" (2349, 2350) from various routes from al-Aʿmash who said: I heard ʿAdī ibn Thābit say: Sulaymān ibn Ṣurad narrated to us saying: Two men insulted each other in the presence of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and one of them became angry, and his face turned red; the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) looked at him and said: ... so he mentioned it. He said: A man from those who heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) stood up to the man and said: Do you know what the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) just said? He said: ... so he mentioned it. The man said to him: Do you see me as mad? !
