- "I know when you are angry and when you are pleased." He said, "When you are pleased, you say, 'Yes, by the Lord of Muḥammad!' and when you are angry, you say, 'No, by the Lord of Ibrāhīm!'" Narrated by al-Bukhārī (5228 and 6078) and Muslim (7/135) through two chains from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah from his father from ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā) who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned the first part of it. She said: I asked, "How do you know that, O Messenger of Allāh?" He said: ... and he mentioned the second part of it. She said: I replied, "Yes, I only avoid your name." It was also narrated by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (403), Ibn Ḥibbān (2117), al-Baghawī (2338), al-Bayhaqī (10/27), Aḥmad (6/61 and 213), Abū Yaʿlá (4893 and 4894), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (23/ numbers: 119, 120, 121, and 221), and al-Khaṭīb in "Tārīkh" (3/61), through chains from Hishām. I say: All narrators from Hishām disagreed with ʿAbbād ibn ʿAbbād, who narrated it for Aḥmad (6/30) - and through his route: Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (9/227) - from this ʿAbbād from Hishām. However, he erred in the wording, making the second part of it: "When you are angry, you say, 'O Muḥammad!' and when you are pleased, you say, 'O Messenger of Allāh!'" ʿAbbād is al-Azdī al-ʿAtakī, and despite his reliability, he makes mistakes, as Ibn Saʿd said
