as in "Jāmiʿ al-Masānīd" (12/165/9503), "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (10/251), and "al-Targhīb" (4/100), and he said: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Kabīr' with chains of narration, one of which is authentic." And (al-ḥashm) means: (the servants), as in "al-Nihāyah": "al-ḥashm - with movement - refers to a person's group, those who cling to him for his service." I said: thus his saying in the ḥadīth: "and his wealth" is an example of using the whole to mean a part, a style known in the Quran, sunnah, and language. It is clear that what is meant here are the deceased's slaves who served him, and it is explicitly stated in the ḥadīth of al-Nuʿmān and others. Ibn al-Athīr said in "al-Nihāyah": "Originally, wealth refers to what is owned of gold and silver, then it was applied to everything acquired and owned of tangible items. Most often, wealth among the Arabs referred to camels, as they were the majority of their wealth." He said: "The mention of 'wealth' has been repeated with different meanings in the ḥadīth, and it is distinguished by context." I said: the evidence for what was mentioned from the book and sunnah—let alone the language—is very abundant, such as his saying (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): "It suffices you from gathering wealth to have a servant and a mount in the path of Allāh."
