Abū Saʿd al-Azdī and Abū al-Kunud were not authenticated by anyone other than Ibn Ḥibbān, and the latter was authenticated by Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt," and al-Ḥāfiẓ said about each of them: "acceptable." I did not find any corroboration for them in mentioning al-Aqraʿ and ʿUyainah, so it is not preserved. Al-Būṣīrī, in "al-Zawāʾid," followed the apparent statements regarding the men of the isnād, saying: "Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ, and its men are trustworthy, and Muslim, al-Nasāʾī, and the author narrated some of it from the ḥadīth of Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ." I say: The statement of Ibn Kathīr seems more likely and stronger to me; for the context of the story indicates that it took place in Mecca when the Muslims were weak, and the ḥadīth of Saʿd to which al-Būṣīrī referred supports this. Saʿd said: We were with the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) six people, and the polytheists said to the Prophet: Expel these, they do not dare against us. He said: And I was there, and Ibn Masʿūd, and a man from Hudhayl, and Bilāl, and two men whom I will not name, and something occurred in the soul of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) as Allāh willed it to occur, so he spoke to himself, then Allāh revealed: "And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His face." (Al-Anʿām, 6:52) It was narrated by Muslim (7/127) - and the context is his -, and al-Nasāʾī in "al-Kubrā" (6/340/11163), and Ibn Mājah (4128), and Ibn Jarīr (7/128), and al-Ḥākim (3/319), and al-Bazzār in "al-Baḥr al-Zakhkhār" (4/61-62), and Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (2/141/826), and ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd in "al-Muntaqā" (1/173/131), and Ibn Ḥibbān (14/535/6573 - al-Muʾassasah) through various chains from al-Miqdām ibn Shurayḥ from his father from him. Al-Ḥākim said: "Ṣaḥīḥ according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs and they did not narrate it!" and al-Dhahabī agreed with him!
