he said: Abū Jahl said: "If I see the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) praying at the Kaʿbah, I will come to him and step on his neck!" he said: "If he had done so, the angels would have seized him visibly, and if the Jews had wished for death, they would have died and seen their places in the Fire." and if those who challenge the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) had gone forth, they would have returned not finding any wealth or family." and Furāt: he is Ibn Salmān, and he is trustworthy. and the narrator from him, Ismāʿīl ibn Yazīd al-Raqī; I did not know him, and the ḥāfiẓ claimed in "al-Taʿjīl" that he is (Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khālid al-Raqī) who is in "al-Tahdhīb"! Shaykh Aḥmad Shākir—may Allāh have mercy on him—mistakenly corrected him in this for reasons he mentioned, which are strong, and concluded that he is someone else, and said: "Aḥmad carefully selects his teachers, so he only narrates from a trustworthy one, and thus we authenticated his ḥadīth." Thus he said. And Allāh knows best. Yes; his ḥadīth is authentic; for I found a strong corroborator for him, as Abū Yaʿlá said in "Musnad" (4/471/2604): Zuhayr narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us: ʿUbayd Allāh narrated to us in full like the narration of (Furāt). and this isnād is authentic according to the criteria of the two shaykhs. and he was followed by Maʿmar from ʿUbayd Allāh with it in a very abbreviated form; he only has the statement: "If he had done so, the angels would have seized him visibly." ʿAbd al-Razzāq produced it in "Tafsīr" (1/52 and 2/334) and through his route al-Bukhārī (4958)
قال: قال أبو جهل: لئن رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يصلي عند الكعبة، لآتينَّه حتى أطأ على عنقه! قال: فقال: "لو فعل؛ لأخذته الملائكة عياناً، ولو أن اليهود تمنوا الموت؛ لماتوا ورأوا مقاعدهم في النار". ولو خرج الذين يباهلون رسول الله ﷺ؛ لرجعوا لا يجدون مالاً ولا أهلاً". وفرات: هو ابن سلمان، وهو ثقة. والراوي عنه إسماعيل بن يزيد الرقي؛ لم أعرفه، وادعى الحافظ في "التعجيل" أنه (إسماعيل بن عبد الله بن خالد الرقي) الذي في "التهذيب"! وخطأه في ذلك الشيخ أحمد شاكر- ﵀، لأمور ذكرها، وهي قوية، وانتهى إلى أنه غيره، وقال: "وأحمد يتحرى شيوخه، فلا يروي إلا عن ثقة، وعند ذاك صححنا حديثه". كذا قال. والله أعلم. نعم؛ حديثه صحيح؛ فقد وجدت له متابعاً قوياً، فقال أبو يعلى في "مسنده" (٤/٤٧١/٢٦٠٤): حدثنا زهير: حدثنا عبد الله بن جعفر: حدثنا عبيد الله بتمامه مثل رواية (فرات). وهذا إسناد صحيح على شرط الشيخين. وتابعه معمر عن عبيد الله به مختصراً جدّاً؛ ليس عنده إلا قوله: "لو فعل؛ لأخذته الملائكة عياناً". أخرجه عبد الرزاق في "تفسيره" (١/٥٢ و ٢/٣٣٤) ومن طريقه البخاري (٤٩٥٨).
