and al-Tirmidhī (3348) - who authenticated it - and al-Nasāʾī in "al-Sunan al-Kubrā" (6/518/11685), and al-Ṭabarī (1/336), and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Dalāʾil" (2/192), and Aḥmad (1/368), all of them from ʿAbd al-Razzāq with it. The commentator on "al-Tirmidhī" claimed that he was unique in narrating it; meaning without al-Bukhārī and the rest of the six! Al-Ḥāfiẓ said after the ḥadīth: "al-Ismāʿīlī added at its end from the route of Maʿmar from ʿAbd al-Karīm al-Jazarī: Ibn ʿAbbās said: If the Jews had wished for death, they would have died, and if those who were to engage in mutual cursing with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) had gone out, they would have returned not finding family or wealth." There is a corroborating ḥadīth for the chapter from Abū Hurayrah who said: Abū Jahl said: Does Muḥammad rub his face in the dust among you? It was said: Yes. He said: By al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā! If I see him doing that, I will step on his neck, or I will rub his face in the dust! He said: He came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while he was praying - claiming to step on his neck! He said: Then nothing surprised them except that he was retreating on his heels and shielding himself with his hands. He was asked: What is the matter with you? He said: There is indeed a trench of fire, terror, and wings between me and him! The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "If he had come near me, the angels would have snatched him limb by limb." He said: Then Allāh revealed — we do not know if it was in the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, or something that reached him —: (No! Indeed, man transgresses. Because he sees himself self-sufficient. Indeed, to your Lord is the return. Have you seen the one who forbids. A servant when he prays. Have you seen if he is upon guidance. Or enjoins righteousness. Have you seen if he denies and turns away (meaning: Abū Jahl). Does he not know that Allāh sees) to the end of the sūrah
