It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (2802), Muslim (5/181), al-Nasāʾī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (620), Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (1533), and from him by Ibn Ḥibbān in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (6543), as well as Ibn al-Sunnī in "ʿAmal" (505), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (2/186/1708) through the route of Abū ʿAwānah from al-Aswad ibn Qays from Jundub ibn Sufyān that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was ... and the context is from al-Bukhārī. The narrators differed regarding al-Aswad ibn Qays—may Allāh have mercy on him—in determining the occasion during which this incident occurred. Abū ʿAwānah said—as you see—in one of the battles. Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah said: I was with the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a cave, and his finger was struck, and he said: ... and he mentioned it.
