and in the ḥadīth of Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ: the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) returned from Khaybar, and I said: O Messenger of Allāh! Do you permit me to recite poetry? The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) permitted him. ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) said: Be aware of what you say! I said: By Allāh, if it were not for Allāh, we would not have been guided, nor given charity, nor prayed. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "You have spoken the truth." So bestow tranquility upon us and make firm our steps if we meet [the enemy], and the polytheists have transgressed against us.
