I brought merchandise to Medina during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). When I finished my trade, I said: I will meet this man and listen to him. He said: I encountered him between Abū Bakr and ʿUmar; they were walking, and I followed them closely until they came upon a Jewish man who was reading the Torah, consoling himself over the death of his son, who was one of the finest and most handsome young men. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "I adjure you by the One who revealed the Torah! Do you find in your book my description and my emergence?" He shook his head like this, meaning: no. His son said: Yes, by the One who revealed the Torah! We do find in our book your description and your emergence, and I testify that there is no deity but Allāh, and that you are the Messenger of Allāh. He then mentioned him, and then he took care of his shrouding, embalming, and prayed over him. I said: This isnād's men are trustworthy, except for Abū Ṣakhr al-ʿUqaylī. Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him among the Companions in "al-Thiqāt" (3/457), and al-Bukhārī and Muslim preceded him in this, affirming his companionship, as in "al-Iṣābah" and "al-Taʿjīl." And if that is the case, the isnād is authentic, because the unknown status of a Companion does not harm [the authenticity]. Therefore, Ibn Kathīr said in the commentary on Sūrah al-Aʿrāf (2/251): "This is a good, strong ḥadīth, with a corroborating report in 'al-Ṣaḥīḥ' from Anas." جلبتُ جلوبة (١) إلى المدينة في حياة رسول الله ﷺ، فلما فرغت من بيعتي؛ قلت: لألقينًّ هذا الرجل، فلأسمعن منه. قال: فتلقاني بين أبي بكر وعمر؛ يمشون، فتبعتهم في أقفائهم حتى أتوا على رجل من اليهود ناشراً التوراة يقرؤها، يعزي بها نفسه على ابن له في الموت؛ كأحسن الفتيان وأجمله، فقال رسول الله ﷺ:"أنشُدُك بالذي أنزل التوراة! هل تجد في كتابك صفتي ومخرجي؟ ". فقال برأسه هكذا؛ أي: لا. فقال ابنه: إي والذي أنزل التوراة! إنا لنجد في كتابنا صفتك ومخرجك، وأشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأنك رسول الله. فقال ... فذكره، ثم ولي كفنه، وحنطه (٢) ، وصلى عليه. قلت: وهذا إسناد رجاله ثقات؛ غير أبي صخر العقيلي، فذكره ابن حبان في الصحابة من "الثقات " (٣/٤٥٧) ، وسبقه إلى ذلك البخاري ومسلم؛ فجزموا بصحبته، كما في "الإصابة" و"التعجيل ". واذا كان كذلك؛ فالسند صحيح؛ لأن جهالة الصحابي لا تضر، ولهذا قال ابن كثير في تفسير سورة (الأعراف) (٢/ ٢٥١) :"هذا حديث جيد قوي، له شاهد في "الصحيح " عن أنس ". قلت: والشاهد الذي أشار إليه شاهد مختصر جدَّاً، فيه أمر النبي ﷺ لابن
