he is the second of two, and he is the elder of the Muslims, so beware lest he turns and sees you supporting me against him and becomes angry, then he would go to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he would become angry for his anger, and then Allāh would become angry for their anger, and Rabīʿah would be ruined. They said: What do you command us to do? He said: Go back. So Abū Bakr (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) went to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and I followed him alone, and I kept following him until he reached the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and related the incident as it had happened. He raised his head to me and said: "O Rabīʿah! What is between you and al-Ṣiddīq?" I said: O Messenger of Allāh, it was such and such; he said a word to me that I disliked; he told me: Say as I said to you so that it would be equal. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... (and he mentioned it) and Abū Bakr (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) turned away weeping. I said: And this isnād is authentic, its men are trustworthy, only the ʿanʿanah of Ibn Faḍālah is feared, but he explicitly stated transmission, and thus a group considered him reliable, and Abū Zurʿah said: "If he says: (Thana) he is trustworthy." *

It was recorded by Isḥāq ibn Rāhwayh in "his Musnad" (4/13/2), and through his chain and others: Muslim in "his Ṣaḥīḥ" (4/166 - 167) from al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān from Ayyūb narrating from Abū al-Khalīl from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith from Umm al-Faḍl who said: A Bedouin entered upon the Prophet of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while he was in my house, and said: O Prophet of Allāh! I had a wife; then I married another, and my first wife claimed that she had nursed my new wife once or twice, so the Prophet of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it.
