I said: What is in our copy of "al-Aṣbahānī" is the wording mentioned above, and the wording of al-Ṭabarānī according to al-Mundhirī is: "whoever has a mustard seed's weight of arrogance in his heart." It was narrated by Aḥmad (4/58-59), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (5774) through various chains from Mubārak ibn Faḍālah: Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī narrated to us from Rabīʿah al-Aslamī who said: I used to serve the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he granted me a piece of land, and he also granted Abū Bakr a piece of land. The worldly matters came, and we disputed over a cluster of palm trees. Abū Bakr said: It is within the boundary of my land! And I said: It is within the boundary of my land! There were words exchanged between me and Abū Bakr, and Abū Bakr said a word to me that I disliked and regretted, so he said to me: O Rabīʿah! Respond to me with something similar so that it may be an equal recompense. I said: I will not do so. Abū Bakr said: You will say it, or I will seek the judgment of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) against you. I said: I will not do it. He then abandoned the land. Abū Bakr (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) went to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and I followed him. Some people from Aslam came and said: May Allāh have mercy on Abū Bakr!
