Yūnus al-Yamāmī—all three of them—from ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār from al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad said: ʿAbdullāh ibn Ḥanẓalah claimed that ʿAbdullāh ibn Salām passed through the market carrying a bundle of wood. He was asked, "Has not Allāh enriched you from this?" He replied, "Yes, but I wanted to ward off arrogance. I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: ..." and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "The isnād is authentic, and they did not include it in mentioning ʿAbdullāh ibn Salām." Al-Dhahabī followed up by saying: "I said: Sālim is weak." I said: He was followed by someone who preceded his generation. And Ismāʿīl ibn Sinān al-ʿAṣfarī has no issue with his ḥadīth, as Abū Ḥātim said (2/176/592). And ʿUmar—and in the original: ʿUthmān, which is a scribe's error—ibn Yūnus al-Yamāmī is trustworthy among the men of the two Shaykhs. The narrator from him, Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd, is Ibn Muḥammad ibn Shuʿbah ibn Yazīd ibn al-Najjār al-Yamāmī, praised by Ibn Maʿīn who said: "I have rarely seen anyone more understanding of the ḥadīth of al-Yamāmah than him." Abū Ḥātim said (4/114/495): "Truthful and accurate." I said: The isnād of al-Aṣbahānī is good, and it is among the precious benefits of his book. Al-Mundhirī said (4/18): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī with a good isnād, and by al-Aṣbahānī; except that he said: 'an atom's weight of arrogance.'"
