- "Indeed, it is Allāh who guides to the best of morals, and it is He who turns away from the worst of them." Narrated by ʿAbd al-Razzāq in "al-Muṣannaf" (11/146/20156) from Ṭāwūs who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said while on the pulpit: ... and he mentioned it. I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic but mursal, and al-Ṭabarānī connected it in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (11/17/10896) through the route of Shāhīn ibn Ḥayyān: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār from Ṭāwūs from Ibn ʿAbbās: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said in his sermon ... and he mentioned it. And this Shāhīn; Abū Ḥātim said: "Weak in ḥadīth." Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt".... However, the ḥadīth has a strong corroborating evidence from the ḥadīth of ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) in his opening of the prayer of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and in it is his saying: "O Allāh! Guide me to the best of morals, none guides to the best of them except You, and turn away from me their evil, none turns away their evil except You." It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/102), Muslim, and Abū ʿAwānah in their "Ṣaḥīḥ" collections, and al-Tirmidhī—who authenticated it—and others, and it is included in "Ṣaḥīḥ Sunan Abī Dāwūd" (no. 738). It also has a corroborating evidence from the ḥadīth of Jābir with the wording: "O Allāh! Guide me to the best of deeds and the best of morals; none guides to the best of them except You, and protect me from the evil of deeds and the evil of morals; none protects from their evil except You." Narrated by al-Nasāʾī and others with an authentic chain, and it is included in the aforementioned source under number (739)
