may the One for whom you loved me love you. He said: Then he returned to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and informed him of what he said, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is authentic; if al-Ashʿath—who is al-Ḥuddānī—heard it from Anas, for Ibn Ḥibbān said in "al-Thiqāt": "I do not think he heard from Anas." Perhaps the reason for this is that Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth narrated it from him through al-Ḥasan from Anas in an abbreviated form with the wording: "A person is with whom he loves, and he has what he earned." It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (2386), who said: "A ḥadīth ḥasan gharīb from this perspective." I said: But in it is Abū Hishām al-Rifāʿī—whose name is Muḥammad ibn Yazīd—about whom the ḥāfiẓ said: "He is not strong." I said: So he cannot be used as evidence, and he differed in its isnād and matn: As for the isnād; he inserted between al-Ashʿath and Anas: al-Ḥasan, who is al-Baṣrī. And as for the matn; it is his saying: "and he has what he earned!" while the correct version is: "and you have what you intended," as in the ḥadīth of the chapter. Yes; the ḥadīth has an origin from al-Ḥasan; for Mubārak ibn Faḍālah said: Ḥadathnā al-Ḥasan: Anas ibn Mālik informed me saying: I was with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in his house, and a man came and said: O Messenger of Allāh! When is the Hour? He said: "Indeed, it is coming, so what have you prepared for it?" He said: By Allāh, O Messenger of Allāh!
