It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn" (2/16/834) and in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (8/136/7535) through the route of Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh: Shurayḥīl ibn Muslim and Muḥammad ibn Ziyād told me: they both heard Abū Umāmah say: ... and he mentioned it. I said: This is a connected and authentic Shāmī isnād. It was also recorded in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (8/162-163) through another route from Ismāʿīl in a shorter form, but he paired with Ibn ʿAyyāsh’s two shaykhs: (Asad ibn Wadāʿah), who was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Ḥibbān (4/56), and al-Bukhārī narrated in "al-Tārīkh" (1/2/50), and al-Fasawī in "al-Maʿrifah" (1/117) from Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ that he was deemed acceptable, and al-Fasawī narrated (2/385) indicating that he was among those who dedicated themselves to fiqh, confining themselves in the mosque away from worldly pursuits, and that he was the judge of the army in Ḥimṣ. Then al-Ṭabarānī narrated (7617) with another authentic isnād from Ismāʿīl from Shurayḥīl from Abū Umāmah who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say in his khuṭbah during the Farewell Pilgrimage: ... and he mentioned it with some abridgment. And it was narrated in "Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn" (2/401-402) through the route of Faraj ibn Faḍālah from Luqmān ibn ʿĀmir from Abū Umāmah who said: I was with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) during the Farewell Pilgrimage, and he addressed the people, saying in his admonition: "Behold, perhaps you will not see me after this year, (three times)." Then a tall, disheveled man stood up, as if he were from the men of Shanūʾah, and said: What should we do, O Messenger of Allāh?! He replied: "Worship your Lord..." the ḥadīth, and in it: "with contentment in your hearts."
