from him, from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: ... and he mentioned it. Al-Bukhārī included it in the biography of Ibn Wālibah, without mentioning any criticism or endorsement, and Ibn Abī Ḥātim did the same. As for Ibn Ḥibbān; he mentioned him according to his principle in "al-Thiqāt" (7/416), and he included this ḥadīth in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" as you see! As for al-Ḥākim's statement afterward: "All its narrators are from Medina; none of them were attributed to any kind of criticism!" it does not provide authentication; because anyone who is unknown like this is accurately described as not being attributed to criticism, so take note. Al-Ṭabarānī said: "This ḥadīth is not narrated from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr except through this isnād, and Ibn Abī Uways is unique in narrating it." I say: Despite being among the narrators of the two Shaykhs, there has been criticism of his memory. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but he made mistakes in some ḥadīths from his memory." I say: There is another defect in the ḥadīth, which is the disconnection between Saʿīd ibn Jubayr and Abū Hurayrah; for Ibn Maʿīn said: "It is not authentic that he heard from him."
