Sulaymān from Thābit said: Shamīsah—or Sumayyah narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Razzāq said: in my book it is Sumīnah—from Ṣafiyyah bint Ḥuyayy: that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) performed ḥajj with his wives, and when they were on a part of the journey, a man descended and drove them quickly, so the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it. While they were traveling, the camel of Ṣafiyyah bint Ḥuyayy knelt down, and she was among the best of them in appearance, so she cried. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came when he was informed of that and began to wipe her tears with his hand, and she continued to cry more while he was forbidding her. When she cried excessively, he rebuked her and scolded her, and he ordered the people to dismount, so they dismounted, though he did not intend to stop. She said: they dismounted, and it was my day. When they dismounted, the tent of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was pitched, and he entered it. She said: I did not know what to expect from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and I feared that he might have something against me! She said: I went to ʿĀʾishah and said to her: You know that I would never sell my day with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) for anything ever, and I have given my day to you so that you may please the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) on my behalf! She said: Yes. She said: ʿĀʾishah took a veil of hers that she had perfumed with saffron, sprinkled it with water to enhance its fragrance, then she dressed herself and went to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). She lifted the edge of the tent, and he said to her: "What brings you, ʿĀʾishah?! This is not your day." She said: That is the bounty of Allāh which He gives to whom He wills, so he stayed with his family. When it was time to depart, he said to Zaynab bint Jaḥsh: "O Zaynab! Lend your camel to your sister Ṣafiyyah." She was among the wealthiest in camels, and she said: Should I lend to your Jewess?! The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) became angry when he heard that from her, and he avoided her and did not speak to her until he reached Mecca and during the days of Minā on his journey, until he returned to Medina; and during Muḥarram and Ṣafar, he did not visit her, nor did he divide for her, and she despaired of him
