while he was walking behind the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam); his companions or some of them nudged him, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul! ʿAbd Allāh is heavier in the scales on the Day of Resurrection than Uḥud." It was as if they were amazed by his lightness! I said: And this is another story—as is apparent—if it is authentic; for I did not find any mention of this Sārah in any of the biographical dictionaries I have, and Allāh knows best. Then I found a fifth path, but it is also weak; from the narration of Sharīk from Jābir from Abū al-Ḍuḥā from al-Azhar ibn al-Aswad from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd who said: I climbed an arāk tree to gather some siwāk from it (original: arāk), and my companions were amazed by my lightness, so the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "What amazes you?! By the One in Whose hand is my soul! He is heavier in the scale on the Day of Resurrection than Uḥud." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (9/97/8517). And this Jābir is Ibn Yazīd al-Juʿfī, who is abandoned. And I did not find anyone who mentioned al-Azhar ibn al-Aswad. As for the ḥadīth of ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu); it is narrated by Muḥammad ibn al-Fuḍayl ibn Ghazwān from Mughīrah from Umm Mūsá who said: I heard ʿAlī say: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) ordered ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd to climb a tree and bring him something from it, and his companions looked at ʿAbd Allāh's leg and laughed at the thinness of his legs, so the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "What are you laughing at?! The leg of ʿAbd Allāh is heavier in the scale than Uḥud."
