I said: Mālik ibn Ẓālim is among the men of "al-Mīzān," and he said: "Al-Azdī said: He is not followed in this." Similarly, in "al-Lisān," they mentioned this ḥadīth for him, but they missed Ibn Ḥibbān's authentication of him, yet they did not mention any narrator for him other than Simāk ibn Ḥarb; thus, he is unknown. However, Ibn Ḥibbān narrated it (6677) through the route of al-Aʿmash from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Hurayrah, raised [to the Prophet] with the wording: "The destruction of my nation will be at the hands of foolish youths from Quraysh." And he added: Marwān said: "And these are the youths." Its isnād is authentic. It has another route narrated by Saʿīd ibn ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd who said: I was sitting with Abū Hurayrah in the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, and Marwān was with us. Abū Hurayrah said: I heard the truthful, the trusted one say: "The destruction of my nation will be at the hands of youths from Quraysh." Marwān said: "May Allāh curse those youths." Abū Hurayrah said: "If I wished, I could say: the sons of so-and-so, the sons of so-and-so; I would have done so." [ʿAmr ibn Yaḥyá said:] "I used to go out with my grandfather to the Banū Marwān when they ruled in Syria, and when he saw them as young lads, he would say to us: 'Perhaps these are among them!' We said: 'You know better.'" It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (6/612/3605 and 13/9) — and the context is his — and by Aḥmad (2/324) — in a shortened form.
