to page (119), and al-Bājī did not include it in "al-Muntaqá" as is often his habit (1/308-309)! The first part of it was connected by Zuhayr ibn Ḥarb in "al-ʿIlm" (135/109) through the route of Kumayl ibn Ziyād from ʿAbd Allāh who said: "You are in a time with many scholars and few preachers, and after you will come a time with many preachers and few scholars." Its isnād is authentic; as I have clarified in the commentary on "al-ʿIlm." There is another route from him with a more complete context in al-Bukhārī's "al-Adab al-Mufrad," where he said (205/789): ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Aswad narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād narrated to us, saying: al-Ḥārith ibn Ḥaṣīrah narrated to us, saying: Zayd ibn Wahb narrated to us, saying: I heard Ibn Masʿūd say: ... and he mentioned it up to his saying: "many who give," and added: "in it, action leads desire, and there will come after you a time with few jurists, many preachers, many questioners, few who give, desire leading action, know that good guidance in the end of times is better than some action." I said: And this isnād is good, its men are trustworthy, the men of al-Bukhārī; except for al-Ḥārith ibn Ḥaṣīrah, whom the majority deemed trustworthy, but al-ʿUqaylī and Ibn ʿAdī weakened him, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "truthful but errs, accused of rejection."
