and it has another chain from ʿĀʾishah with an objectionable addition, which I have included in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" (6322). *Encouragement to marry a virgin except for the benefit of the young

- (for you have done well. He said this to Jābir when he informed him that he married a previously married woman to serve his younger sisters). It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/358), and Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (4/417). They said: ʿUbaydah ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us from al-Aswad ibn Qays al-ʿAbdī from Nubayḥ ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿAnazī from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to me: "O Jābir! Do you have a wife?" He said: I replied: Yes. He said: "Did you marry a previously married woman or a virgin?" He said: I told him: I married her and she was previously married. He said: "Why did you not marry a young girl?" He said to him: My father was killed with you on such and such a day, and he left behind daughters, so I disliked to bring in a young girl like one of them, so I married a previously married woman who could groom one of them and sew a dress for one of them when it gets torn! He said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. The chain of narration is from Ibn Abī Shaybah, and in its text, there are many typographical errors corrected from its context here; and it is for Aḥmad. I say: Its chain is authentic, its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs; except for Nubayḥ, who was declared trustworthy by Abū Zurʿah, al-ʿAjlī, and Ibn Ḥibbān, and al-Tirmidhī authenticated it—and explicitly declared him trustworthy—, as did Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Ḥibbān, and al-Ḥākim, and Abū Khālid al-Dalānī also narrated from him. As for al-Ḥāfiẓ, he said:
