- (Towards the end of his life, he frequently said: "Glory be to Allāh and with His praise, I seek forgiveness from Allāh and repent to Him." [ʿĀʾishah said:] So I asked: "O Messenger of Allāh! Why do I see you frequently saying: 'Glory be to Allāh and with His praise, I seek forgiveness from Allāh and repent to Him'?" He replied: "My Lord informed me that I would see a sign in my community, and He commanded me—when I see that sign—to glorify Him with His praise and seek His forgiveness. I have seen it: 'When the victory of Allāh has come and the conquest, and you see the people entering into the religion of Allāh in multitudes, then glorify the praises of your Lord and seek His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.'" It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/35): narrated to us by Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAdī from Dāwūd. And Rabiʿī ibn Ibrāhīm said: narrated to us by Dāwūd from al-Shaʿbī from Masrūq who said: ʿĀʾishah said... It was also recorded by al-Ḥusayn al-Marwazī in "Zawāʾid al-Zuhd" (398/1130): narrated to us by Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAdī who said: narrated to us by Dāwūd... with it. It was recorded by Muslim (2/50), and Ibn Jarīr in "al-Tafsīr" (30/215), who said: narrated to me by Muḥammad ibn al-Muthanná: narrated to me by ʿAbd al-Aʿlá: narrated to us by Dāwūd with it, and they added: "and the conquest: the conquest of Makkah."
