Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (8/268), and said: "al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān and Abū Yaʿlá reported from him, and his ḥadīth is considered without his narration from his father." I said: ʿAbdān also narrated from him, so these are three trustworthy ḥadīth preservers who have narrated from him, and there is a fourth preserver, Abū Zurʿah, as mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim—who only narrates from a trustworthy source—therefore, he is trustworthy; the only issue with this narration is Rashīd, and he was referred to as "Abū ʿAbd Allāh" in "Ibn al-Sunnī" and similarly in "Kāmil Ibn ʿAdī." It was said about him: "He narrated from Thābit with ḥadīths that were not followed up on, and he has other ḥadīths from Thābit besides this one, and this is only narrated from ʿAwf from Thumāmah from Anas: it was narrated from ʿAwf by ʿĪsá ibn Yūnus, Ibn Abī ʿAdī, ʿUmar ibn al-Nuʿmān, and Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, the author of the Maghāzī." Al-Dhahabī—and he was followed by al-ʿAsqalānī—said: "Unknown"; and likewise said al-Haythamī (10/42). He was followed by Muḥammad ibn Thābit al-Bannānī: my father narrated it to me; except he said: "By Allāh! I love you." This is the preserved version; because it agrees with the ḥadīth of the translation, contrary to the ḥadīth of Rashīd; for it is objectionable. Ibn al-Sunnī also recorded it (224), and it includes: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was met by women, children, and servants coming from a wedding of theirs, so he greeted them and said: ... and he mentioned it. There is corroboration for the wedding event from the ḥadīth of al-Rubayyiʿ bint Muʿawwidh, and it includes that this was when she was married
