as stated by the ḥāfiẓ in "Muqaddimah al-Fatḥ," and perhaps the most just statement about him is that of ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī in "al-Mughnī": "Trustworthy, prolific, but has some deniable narrations." He has another chain with al-Bayhaqī as well, from Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Abī al-Ward who said: Ibrāhīm ibn Ṣirmah narrated to us, saying: Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd narrated to us from Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah from Anas, similar to it. The ḥāfiẓ attributed it (7/261) to al-Ḥākim and remained silent about it. I say: This isnād is weak; Ibrāhīm ibn Ṣirmah is disputed, and al-Dhahabī mentioned him in "al-Mughnī," saying: "al-Dāraqutnī and others weakened him." A third chain: narrated by Saʿīd: Rashīd narrated to us: Thābit narrated to us from Anas with it; except that he said: "O Allāh, bless them." It was produced by Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (6/134/3409), and through his route: Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (3/159), and Ibn al-Sunnī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (225), and from him ḥāfiẓ ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Maqdisī in "Aḥādīth al-Shiʿr" (75/26- Amman) all from Abū Yaʿlá - and Ibn ʿAdī paired with him: ʿAbdān - they both said: Saʿīd ibn Abī al-Rabīʿ al-Sammān narrated to us with it. I say: This Saʿīd, Ibn Abī Ḥātim named his father: Ashʿath ibn Saʿīd al-Sammān, who is Ibn Abī al-Rabīʿ al-Sammān, and he said about his father: "I do not see him except as truthful."
