"my father narrated from him, and he was asked about him? He said: truthful." Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (8/244), and said: "his ḥadīth is reliable." I said: so al-Haythamī's statement about him: "and he is weak"! is one of his errors, for there is no one who weakens him while those I mentioned have authenticated him, and it seems he confused him with the one in "al-Mīzān" and others: "Rūḥ ibn Ḥātim al-Bazzār al-Baghdādī.. from Ibn Maʿīn: he is nothing." This is summarized from "Tārīkh Baghdād" (8/406-407). I said: so this is not the narrator of this ḥadīth; for his kunyah in it is: "Abū Ghasān" as you saw, and this one has no kunyah, even though they are in the same generation, hence the confusion arose, so the isnād is authentic, and the ḥadīth is strengthened further, and all praise is due to Allāh by whose grace righteous deeds are completed. And his statement in it: "darkened cheeks"; its meaning: there is change and darkness in them; it is among the many evidences that a woman's face is not ʿawrah; because if it were covered as the extremists claim; Abū Saʿīd would not have been able to describe her cheeks, and likewise Jābir (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) described her in "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim" and elsewhere, and it is produced in "Ḥijāb al-Marʾah al-Muslimah," and I finally named it "Jilbāb al-Marʾah al-Muslimah." *
- "Allāh knows that my heart loves you." He said it to some young women from Banū al-Najjār. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Ṣaghīr" (p. 15 - Hindiyyah, 25 - al-Rawḍ al-Naḍīr), and al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (2/508) through two chains from Abū Khaythamah
