"there is some doubt about it; due to what was mentioned by al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū al-Ḥasan al-Qaṭṭān in his book "Al-Wahm wa-al-Ihām" that Muslim—may Allāh have mercy on him—did not rely on it, but only narrated it as supporting evidence like al-Bukhārī." It is strange that Ibn Ṭāhir al-Maqdisī in his book "Al-Jamʿ bayna Rijāl al-Ṣaḥīḥayn" did not point out what Ibn al-Qaṭṭān mentioned, and Allāh knows best. I have found another chain and a supporting witness for the ḥadīth. As for the chain; it was narrated by Abū al-Shaykh in "Ṭabaqāt al-Aṣbahāniyyīn" (182/179), and from his route by al-Shajari in "Al-Amālī" (1/57) who said: Abū ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn ʿĀmir narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to us, saying: al-Nuʿmān narrated to us: Abū Bakr narrated from Sharīk ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Namr from Anas ibn Mālik who said: ... and he mentioned it; except that he said, "and increase us in knowledge to our knowledge" in the plural form, and he said the same in the two preceding phrases, and added: "Abū ʿAlī said: Ḥātim ibn Yūnus was with us, and he said: This Abū Bakr is from the people of Basra." I said: I wish he had named him; for there are many from Basra with this kunyah from this generation, among them: al-Rabīʿ ibn Ṣabīḥ, ʿImrān ibn Muslim al-Minqarī, Quraysh ibn Anas al-Anṣārī, Wahīb ibn Khālid al-Bāhilī their client, and Abū Bakr ibn Shuʿayb ibn al-Ḥabḥāb al-Miʿwalī, and all of them are trustworthy, with some discussion regarding al-Rabīʿ, and Abū Bakr al-Hudhali, who is weak in ḥadīth; as mentioned in "Al-Mīzān," but al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Mizzī did not mention any of these among those who narrated from Sharīk ibn ʿAbd Allāh, rather he mentioned Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Sabrah, and he is a Madinan who is abandoned and accused of fabrication; and Allāh knows best
