that Mālik (may Allāh have mercy on him) said: I heard him mention that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to say: ... and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of Muslim," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him! I said: It is as they said; however, Sulaymān ibn Mūsá—who is the Damascene al-Ashdaq—has some criticism, although he is among the notable figures. Al-Dhahabī described him in "al-Siyar" (5/433-437) as: "the great imam, the muftī of Damascus." Then he mentioned the disagreement about him and said: "He has something in the introduction of Muslim." indicating that he was not relied upon. Therefore, al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, a jurist, but his ḥadīth has some weakness, and he was confused shortly before his death." I said: Thus, his ḥadīth barely reaches the level of ḥasan. Similar to him is Usāmah ibn Zayd—who is the Līthī, their client from Medina; al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī said in "al-Kāshif": "Muslim narrated a version from Ibn Wahb from Usāmah; most of it is corroborative or he pairs it with another." Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿAsqalānī said: "Truthful but makes mistakes." He indicated that Muslim narrated from him, and al-Bukhārī in a suspended form, and likewise in its original "Tahdhīb al-Kamāl" by al-Mizzī, but he stated at the end of his biography that al-Bukhārī used him as evidence in "al-Ṣaḥīḥ" and remained silent about Muslim's narration, which implied that he relied on him. Therefore, Dr. Bashār criticized him in his commentary by saying:
مالك- ﵁ قال: فسمعته يذكر أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يقول: ... فذكره. وقال الحاكم:"صحيح على شرط مسلم "، ووافقه الذهبي! قلت: وهو كما قالا؛ لكن سليمان بن موسى- وهو الدمشقي الأشدق - فيه كلام، مع أنه من الأعلام، وقد وصفه الذهبي في "السير" (٥/٤٣٣- ٤٣٧) بأنه: "الإمام الكبير، مفتي دمشق ". ثم ذكر الخلاف فيه، وقال:"وله شيء في مقدمة مسلم ". يشير إلى أنه لم يحتج به. ولذلك قال الحافظ في "التقريب ":"صدوق فقيه، في حديثه بعض لين، وخولط قبل موته بقليل ". قلت: فمثله بالكاد أن يصل حديثه مرتبة الحسن. وقريب منه أسامة بن زيد- وهو الليثي مولاهم المدني-؛ قال الحافظ الذهبي في "الكاشف ":"روى مسلم نسخة لابن وهب عن أسامة؛ أكثرها شواهد أو يقرنه بآخر". وقال الحافظ العسقلاني:"صدوق يهم ". ورمز له بأنه روى له مسلم، والبخاري تعليقاً، وكذا في أصله "تهذيب الكمال " للمزي، لكنه صرح في آخر ترجمته بأن البخاري استشهد به في "الصحيح "، وسكت عن رواية مسلم، فأوهم أنه احتج به. ولذلك انتقده الدكتور بشارفي تعليقه عليه بقوله:
