it was recorded by al-Khaṭīb in "al-Tārīkh" (8/49) in the biography of this Ḥusayn, and he narrated from Abū ʿUrūbah al-Ḥarrānī that he said about him: "We wrote from him, then his matter became confused to us, and from his writings appeared strange ḥadīths, so our companions abandoned his ḥadīth." al-Dhahabī summarized this in "al-Mīzān," saying: "Abū ʿUrūbah and others said: Abandoned." al-Ḥāfiẓ said after him: "And the other is al-Azdī." I say: thus, he—I mean Ḥusayn—is among those who are not reliable. However, the ḥadīth is supported and strengthened by his saying (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): "Indeed, Allāh has prescribed excellence in everything. So when you kill, kill in a good manner, and when you slaughter, slaughter in a good manner. Let one of you sharpen his blade and let him comfort his slaughtered animal." It was recorded by Muslim, Ibn al-Jārūd, Ibn Ḥibbān, the authors of "al-Sunan," and others, and it is referenced in "Irwāʾ al-Ghalīl" (7/293). And his saying (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): "Do you want to kill it multiple deaths? Why did you not sharpen your blade before laying it down?" It was recorded by al-Ḥākim, who authenticated it, and al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said, and it is referenced in "al-Ṣaḥīḥah" under number (24)
