I said: Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (7/234) and said: "He makes mistakes." It is apparent that he is the one who made an error in this isnād, omitting Masrūq between Ibn Masʿūd and Abū ʿUbaydah; for his narrators are reliable except for Karz ibn Wabarah, from whom a group of reliable narrators transmitted. Ibn Ḥibbān included him among them, yet he contradicted himself in a remarkable way, mentioning him in "al-Tābiʿīn" (5/338) with his narration from Anas! I do not think this is authentic, then he mentioned him (9/27) among those who narrated from "the Followers of the Followers" with his narration from al-Thawrī (1)! Perhaps the correct view is to mention him among "the Followers of the Followers"; because he narrated from Nuʿaym ibn Abī Hind as in this narration, and as in "al-Jarḥ," where it is said (3/2/170): "al-Thawrī, Ibn Shubruma, ʿUbayd Allāh al-Waṣṣāfī, Fuḍayl ibn Ghazwān, and Waraqāʾ ibn ʿUmar narrated from him." Most of these are from the Followers of the Followers, except for Ibn Shubruma—whose name is ʿAbd Allāh; he is a Follower like Nuʿaym ibn Abī Hind, and ʿUbayd Allāh al-Waṣṣāfī—who is Ibn al-Walīd; he is among the narrators from the Followers. It is possible that this Karz was among the younger Followers, and he was known for his devotion, even to the point of excess, with remarkable stories told about him. He has an extensive biography in "Tārīkh Jurjān" (p. 336-344), "al-Ḥilyah" (5/79-83), and "Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ" (6/84-86). I was amazed by him—by Allāh!—and he was a Salafī muḥaddith—how could he remain silent about some of those exaggerations? Like completing the Qurʾān three times in a day and night, knowing it is against the sunnah, for the saying of the Prophet ﷺ:
