ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb entered while the Abyssinians were playing in the mosque; he rebuked them, so the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said ... and he mentioned it, and the context is from al-Ṭaḥāwī, and he does not include [O ʿUmar]. I said: This is a sound isnād according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and its origin is with them through the route of Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī with a similar narration, and its wording is: While the Abyssinians were playing with their spears in the presence of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam); ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb entered, and he reached for the pebbles to throw them at them, so the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: "Leave them, O ʿUmar!" It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (6/92/2901), Muslim (3/23), Ibn Ḥibbān (7/544/5837), al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan" (10/17), Aḥmad (2/308), and al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (4/323/1112), all from the route of ʿAbd al-Razzāq: Maʿmar narrated it to us. (Note): The commentator on "Mushkil al-Āthār" (1/268 - published by Muʾassasat al-Risālah) made three errors in this ḥadīth: The first is that he said regarding the isnād of al-Ṭaḥāwī: "Sound according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī"! This is incorrect; because with al-Ṭaḥāwī it is as follows: Sulaimān ibn Shuʿayb al-Kaysānī narrated to us: Bishr ibn Bakr narrated to us: al-Awzāʿī narrated to me ... etc. This al-Kaysānī is not among the teachers of al-Bukhārī, nor among the teachers of the rest of the six, rather he is from their generation. Yes, he is trustworthy; al-ʿUqaylī deemed him trustworthy, as mentioned in "al-Lisān" (3/96), and al-Samʿānī in "Ansāb"; so the truth is that it should be said: His isnād is sound, only. The second error is that he attributed it to al-Bukhārī, Muslim, and al-Baghawī, and they do not have: "For they are the sons of Arfada," as previously mentioned
