5. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Balkhī, al-Khaṭīb mentioned him in "al-Tārīkh" through the narration of a group of ḥuffāẓ about him, and said (10/94): "He was one of the imams of the people of ḥadīth in memorization, affirmation, trustworthiness, and abundance." 6. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Aḥmad al-Khuttalī—with the khāʾ having a ḍammah and the tāʾ mushaddadah having a fatḥah—al-Khaṭīb also mentioned him (10/290) through the narration of al-Dāraqutnī and others about him, then said: "He was intelligent, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and a ḥāfiẓ." 7. The judge Abū ʿUmar al-Qāsim ibn Jaʿfar, al-Khaṭīb said (12/451): "He was trustworthy and reliable, held the position of judge in Basra, and I heard from him there 'Sunan Abī Dāwūd' and other works." Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ḍarīr was corroborated, as Isḥāq ibn Rāhwayh said in "Musnad" (4/41/1): Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd informed us: al-Ḥasan ibn Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd narrated from his father from Abū Hurayrah who said: "Nothing remains from Paradise on earth except this stone, the planting of the ʿajwah, and measures from Paradise are poured into the water of the Euphrates three times a day."
